When Smarter-Than-Human AI Arrives, Will We Be Ready?
How Near Is the “Technological” Singularity?
The Coming Leap Into The Unknown
Working in IT, I’m blown away by how quickly new developments in Artificial Intelligence are transforming MANY fields.
But it also makes me worry. I already noticed how such innovations can disrupt society in unpredictable ways.
So the idea of a “technological singularity” where AI surpasses human intelligence feels closer than most people assume.
I think about it a lot — Are there positive and negative “singularities” depending on its goals? Depending on what data we feed the superintelligence(s)? Will a true superintelligence always end with similar or same conclusions about reality, the human species and the universe?
Can codes and silicon chips replicate consciousness? Experience subjectivity, empathy, wisdom? It seems fanciful, though ideas once considered magic materialize as tools over time.
For now, computers remain tools, if increasingly advanced. Put two AIs together, will self-awareness emerge? That spark of sentience seems far off.
Not gonna lie, the possibilities which are opening up with all the rapid exponential developments are…
