What is Separation?
Believing that we are distinct, isolated beings in a universe of disconnected entities is the source of our anguish, fear and disagreements. However, this viewpoint is simply an illusion.
You are not separate from anyone else; rather you’re just another expression of The One Self that encompasses all things. Your identity isn’t “a drop in the ocean,” but instead it’s “the entire ocean contained within one single droplet.”
How do we create Separation?
We cultivate distance by believing that our thoughts, emotions, sensations and perceptions are reflections of our identity. As a result, we fabricate tales about ourselves and others predicated on prior occurrences or upcoming expectations. Furthermore, everything and everyone is graded based on our individual inclinations and convictions.
We often forget that we aren’t merely our thoughts, but rather the awareness of them. Likewise, we are not just our emotions — we are the expanse in which they exist. Similarly, sensations do not define us; instead it is their animating spirit within us. Last of all, though we can perceive things around us externally and internally; this does not make up who we truly are as a person rooted in consciousness itself.
